The Bureau of Reclamation commissioner commends the collaboration that will be in effect through 2025.
The Department of the Interior announced this month that several western water agencies reached an agreement to conserve up to 643,000 acre-feet of Lake Mead’s water through 2025. Lake Mead is the largest water reservoir in the United States, created by the Hoover Dam to add water capacity along the Colorado River. However, as drought conditions continue to impact the western states, conserving the reservoir’s decreasing water levels has become a matter of vital importance.
“Addressing the drought crisis requires an all-hands-on-deck approach, and close collaboration among federal, state, Tribal, and local communities,” said Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Camille Calimlim Touton. “When we work together, we can find solutions to meet the challenges of these unprecedented drought conditions.”
